NAOGAON

Naogaon is a district located in the northern part of Bangladesh. It is one of the largest districts in the country, covering an area of approximately 3,435 square kilometers. Naogaon is bordered by the Indian state of West Bengal to the north, the districts of Joypurhat and Bogra to the east, the district of Natore to the south, and the districts of Rajshahi and Chapai Nawabganj to the west.

The district is divided into 11 upazilas, or sub-districts, and has a population of around 3.5 million people, according to the 2011 census. The main language spoken in Naogaon is Bengali, and the majority of the population is Muslim.

Naogaon is known for its agricultural productivity, particularly in the production of rice, wheat, jute, sugarcane, and various vegetables. The district also has a growing textile industry, as well as small-scale industries such as rice milling, oilseed crushing, and bidi (hand-rolled cigarette) making.

One of the main attractions in Naogaon is the Paharpur Buddhist Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Naogaon upazila. The monastery dates back to the 8th century and is one of the most important archaeological sites in South Asia. The site includes the ruins of a large complex of Buddhist temples and monasteries, as well as a museum displaying artifacts found during excavations.

Other notable tourist attractions in Naogaon include the Chalan Beel, a large wetland area known for its diverse bird population, and the Kusumba Mosque, a historic mosque with intricate terracotta decoration.

Naogaon is also home to several notable personalities, including poet Jasim Uddin, musician Abdul Alim, and politician Asaduzzaman Noor.

Despite its agricultural and industrial development, Naogaon remains a relatively rural district with a strong sense of community and tradition. Its rich history and natural beauty make it a unique and interesting destination for visitors to Bangladesh.
